A typical South African scenery, we can see for miles and miles, just us on the road with the beautiful nature surrounding us. But then on the 26th of March 2020 the official “Lockdown” due to the spread of the COVID –19 Virus was implemented by Government and everyone was encouraged to stay at home. Places of work, schools, our churches and many more had to close their doors. For many members and their families, this has been a life-changing experience, with many incurring great financial hardships. Whenever and where ever we could assist we tried to ease the hardship.
Our Sunday church services were changed to virtual services shared on the internet and WhatsApp. Sermons were sent out regularly on whatever devices we were able to utilize. Our Newsletter was printed and distributed to homes and retirement centres and yet there are still some of our members that we are unable to reach.
The Road we are on has had many potholes!
Many of our famous and favourite fundraising activities and other planned interactions have been cancelled.
The AGM, Easter Bazaar and the Gemeindeessen were cancelled and new dates will be announced in 2021.
All these fundraising events that were planned for the year, which now had to be cancelled have a huge impact on the financial livelihood of our congregations. Although our church doors are closed, there are still expenses being incurred, like municipal, telephone, security, electricity & other accounts. Thank you to every member who has continued to pay their membership and/or contributed to our church, we are fully aware that the going is tough and the road is still long. But we are also appealing to every member to please favourably consider the financial stress the church is in.
The September Annual Church Bazaar scheduled for the 5th September might also be cancelled.
It really feels like the Road has been closed!, as not only is there a lot of hard work involved with having a bazaar, but also lots of fun, baking biscuits, chatting and meeting family and friends.
This bazaar is our biggest fundraiser and we rely heavily on the takings of this bazaar.
We would like to get ideas from members as to how we can generate some funds. Please forward your ideas to info@kreuzkirche.co.za or via WhatsApp – 078 955 9329.
Some items have already been dropped off at the church that need to be sold but more are needed.
As there is HOPE we will manage TOGETHER
