On the inside of my cupboard door there are two pictures that have been hanging there for many years. Both are illustrations of Jesus. Many times, I have been looking at them pondering the question:
Jesus who are you? Jesus who are you for me?
The one picture always lets my heart feel sore. “Jesus you are carrying the cross. You have fallen to the ground. You lie on your knees. The weight of the cross was too heavy for you. All the sins of the world are lying on the cross. You took it from us. You died for us. You laid down your life on Golgotha for us.
When the cup was given to you by the heavenly father you struggled, you fought, you asked if it was possible you could not pass it by. Your soul has suffered. You drank the cup so that we could be free, and live. You did it for the world. You did it for me.
Lord, I do not understand it. Your love drove you. I can only thank you. Jesus, you are the conqueror. The one who overcame, who obeyed.
On my cupboard door
Jesus, you want to live in my heart. I invite you to take possession of my heart. You want to be my friend, my brother.
Lord, forgive me. Take away all that separates me from the father – your fa- ther and my father. You want me to be with you for all eternity. I thank you. I adore you. I praise you. You overcame the enemy, you conquered death.
I look at the other picture. You rose again. You are alive. You love me. Your spirit helps me. It lifts me up when I am sad. When faith and hope seem to be nowhere you still love me. I love you.
You beg me to come day after day, moment after moment. To live with you, to yield to you, love you.
Lord Jesus, I am your own. Jesus Christ you are my Saviour, my Redeemer. You are preparing a banquet. You have invited us to be your guests to take part. You are faithful. Help us to trust you and love you!” Amen.
