From August this year, we will have a new rhythm to our weekly church services. The church committee has been discussing what we’ve seen over the last year in our services—where there is room for improvement, and where we might be missing out.

We will continue with English as the sermon language for Sunday mornings at 9:00. There will still be Afrikaans elements in the liturgy of the first Sunday of the month’s service. The second Sunday of the month remains unchanged. We are moving Holy Communion from the fourth Sunday to the third Sunday of the month, making it our most liturgical Sunday. First in English, and then at 10:30 in German—both with Holy Communion. We’re in discussion with possible preachers for the German service to assist when possible.

The fourth Sunday of the month now becomes our congregational service, with more participation from congregants. At present, we have two preachers in our congregation and one in training. We want to give them more opportunities to gain experience and confidence in leading services, and the fourth Sunday will be used for this.

I’m excited about these changes and hope the coming year continues to be one of growth, with new faces joining our regular attendees as we come together as one body to worship our Lord, Jesus Christ.
