The history of our unique planet, Earth, is also the history of the Creator God with His human family. As His children, we cannot afford to live as though history is irrelevant, nor can we remain indifferent to geopolitical developments and events. They all touch and shape our future.

Anyone seeking the truth about these events and developments cannot rely on previously trustworthy and respected mainstream media sources. Unfortunately, these have devolved into propaganda machines over the past 25 years. But who acknowledges this, or would admit it? We humans are far too proud and stubborn for that.

These “news sources” (television, radio, newspapers, and even social media) are these days controlled by interest groups (governments, military, power and economic entities) with the goal of subtly undermining democratic debates and manipulating public opinion for their own purposes. Anyone who holds a different political view is quickly vilified and accused of falling victim to conspiracy theorists. In reality, it is often the opposite! For the sake of peace, political issues are rarely mentioned among family and friends today. It’s easier to stay silent than to stir up controversy. It also takes time and effort to explore independent sources of information to gain a more balanced perspective on the world situation. And who really takes the time to inform himself properly? We are all too busy. In ancient Rome, it was customary to listen thoroughly to both sides in a dispute before passing judgment. However, many of us are quick to judge.

The average person simply wants to live a peaceful family life and enjoy prosperity, without delving into “geopolitics.”
Propaganda machines use psychological tricks, such as the constant repetition of alleged events, omission of historical context, and outright distortion of the truth (blatant lies). As a result, we, as citizens, have become loyal consumers of the “information” fed to us, which in turn fills the coffers of the powerful.

We also happily accept being told who the friends and enemies are in global affairs. Then we apparently know where we stand and who is for or against us. This black-and-white portrayal is skilfully executed by propaganda machines. Much has been learned from Joseph Goebbels, though no one would admit it.

Is it really true that our global intelligence agencies are so inaccurate? Sadly, yes – and it’s worse than we think. Otherwise, we would not be exposing ourselves to the daily news bulletins. The news outlets all follow a certain agenda, which becomes apparent once you listen to alternative sources of information which is often an eye opener.

So, what can we actively do in response to unreliable, biased reporting? The answer: seek out sources from the “other side” – but also turn to independent reporters (historians, researchers, ex-military personnel, academics). I have a long list of such alternative sources of information. However, should you be sceptical about such reporters, don’t merely consult Wikipedia as an “independent verification source” – it is – indeed – not always reliable. Rather compare the statements of these individuals with one another and assess their integrity and humanitarian outlook. See if their accounts align and present a consistent picture. Initially, you may be shocked by hearing something completely different to what you were previously accustomed to, as it won’t fit your previous mind set. At this point, don’t give up – keep questioning until a coherent picture emerges. And remember, this picture will need to be updated as new information becomes available.

When certain global events fall within our sphere of influence, we are also responsible and called to intercede and stand up for justice (Matt. 5:9: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God“). Those who turn a blind eye share in the guilt. Finally: It is comforting to know that, in this chaotic and unjust world, our Lord and Heavenly Father has the final word – one of caring, grace, and true peace.
