Most activities for the new year have commenced and the Church Committee (CC) has also met on the 16th of January to review the tasks facing us as congregation in the coming months.
Looking back at the past year, it is worthwhile mentioning that our church premises are now surrounded by a security fence which was completed by the second half of December, 2017. We are most grateful to Mr Danie Steytler who took this project into his hands and by using labour from his farm reduced the costs.
Secondly, we would like to mention that the cattle project which was started in 2013 has brought in R90 664 for the congregation. We are greatly indebted to Mr Barry Andrag from Victoria-West who has managed this project for us. However, due to the harsh agricultural conditions in the Karoo – compounded by the recent drought – this project has now been discontinued.
Over the past few months it became apparent to us that the two church services on each Sunday have the potential to split the congregation into two separate groups who hardly interact and see one another. For this reason, the CC has decided to introduce trilingual services from the middle of March onwards. These will take place at 09:00 on the first and third Sunday of each month – and will constitute the only service on that day. It is for instance envisaged that the liturgy be in German, the sermon in English and the readings in Afrikaans.
We trust the period of vacancy for our congregation will come to an end by mid-year when Vicar Matome Sadiki with his family will hopefully commence his duties at Bellville. We wish him God’s blessings for his theological examination in May this year. The CC is currently busy looking for a suitable townhouse for the Sadiki family as well as an official car.
We are pleased that Pastor Reinhard Keding has availed himself to serve our congregation from the 18th March till the 15th of April. He will conduct church services, Bible studies and home visits (where requested).
Our Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Sunday the 18th of February after the 09:00 service. We urgently need new church wardens. Should you be prepared to stand or should you know of a suitable candidate please inform the Church Committee.
We also kindly request you to please submit your pledge forms to the church office as soon as possible. This will make our financial budgeting easier.
We trust that God will also guide and bless our congregation during this coming year.
