Since 2015 (with the exception of the two COVID years), joint church services on the second of Advent have been held at Kreuzkiche, Bellville Church of the Cross and St. Philps Kraaifontein (ELCSA) – alternating each year between the two congregations. This event has now already developed into a tradition between the two sister congregations and is an occasion on our church calendar to look forward to. On the 3rd of December 2023, it was Kreuzkirche’s turn to play host for this joyous event. All-in-all about 60 people attended the morning service, which was well received. I will remember the occasion especially for how lively and passionately the congregations participated in singing the hymns which were trilingual. St. Philips also presented two lovely choir pieces. The sermon was given by pastor Constance van Wyk. After the service everyone was treated to German Bratwust and a roll of Brötchen, with juice and wine to share.
